Privacy & AI Disclosure

Ask Danny — plain English, no legalese

Where AI is used in this product

Material lists on this site are generated by artificial intelligence. When you describe a job, your description is sent to a large language model, which writes the list of parts, quantities, and aisle numbers you see.

What that means for you

Parts of this website's code and written content were also produced with AI assistance.

What we collect

Guest mode stores nothing on our servers. If you continue as a guest, your history lives in your own browser and disappears when you clear site data.

Who we share it with

Your job description is sent to whichever AI provider builds your list. Depending on your plan, that may be:

We also use Google Firebase for accounts, Google Analytics for usage stats, Netlify for hosting, and OpenStreetMap Nominatim to turn coordinates into a city name if you enable location.

We do not sell your data. We don't run ads and we don't share your job descriptions with anyone beyond the providers listed above.

How your data is protected

Everything travels over HTTPS with TLS, so it is encrypted between your device and our servers, and again between our servers and the AI providers. API keys live in server-side environment variables and are never sent to your browser.

Your job history and settings are stored in your own browser's local storage, on your device, unencrypted at rest — the same as any site's saved preferences. Anyone with access to your unlocked device can read them. Clear them any time with "Clear history" in the app, or by clearing site data in your browser. We do not keep a copy of guest job history on our servers.

We are a small beta and we do not claim SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA compliance. Do not put anything sensitive into a job description.

Photos, and what not to send

If you attach a photo it is sent to our AI provider to answer that one request and is not stored on our servers afterwards. We do not run face recognition, we do not extract biometric identifiers, and we do not try to identify anyone in an image.

Because photos leave your device, please photograph the broken thing and not people. Do not send images containing faces, licence plates, ID documents, or anything else you would not want a third-party AI provider to process. If you send a photo with a face in it, you are confirming you have that person's permission.

Email and marketing

If you create an account we use your email address to sign you in and to contact you about the Service itself — an outage, a security issue, a change to these terms. That is it.

We do not send marketing email, and we do not sell or rent your address. If we ever start a newsletter it will be opt-in, and every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe link. You can opt out of everything except essential service notices at any time by emailing us, and you can have your account and address deleted entirely by asking.
