Ask Danny is free beta software that uses AI to suggest what materials a job needs and roughly where they sit in a store. It guesses, and it is sometimes wrong. Check anything that matters before you buy it or install it. It tells you what to buy — not how to do the work safely or to code. We collect the data listed in section 5. Use it at your own risk.
The rest of this page says that in the language lawyers use.
By accessing or using Ask Danny (the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use and to the Privacy & AI Disclosure, which is incorporated here by reference. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, to use the Service.
We grant you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own trade, repair, or home-improvement purposes, including commercial use in your own trade work.
You may not: resell or sublicense the Service; scrape, bulk-extract, or reverse-engineer it or its product database; use it to train a competing model or build a competing dataset; circumvent access codes, rate limits, or plan restrictions; or use it for anything unlawful.
Material lists, quantities, prices, and aisle numbers are produced by third-party large language models. This means:
You are responsible for verifying every item before purchase or installation.
The Service is a materials-and-location reference tool. It is not repair instructions, engineering advice, or a code-compliance service, and it does not create a professional relationship of any kind.
Work involving gas, electrical systems, structural elements, load-bearing changes, water heaters, or anything requiring a permit or inspection should be performed or reviewed by a licensed professional. Building codes vary by jurisdiction and the Service does not check them.

AI providers that may receive your job description and photos include Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and Groq, each under their own terms. Do not submit descriptions or photos containing personal, confidential, or sensitive information — including documents, faces, licence plates, or anything you would not want processed by a third party.
Guest mode sends nothing to our servers. Your history stays in your browser. We do not sell your data and we do not run ads. Full detail in the Privacy & AI Disclosure.
You are responsible for the security of your account and for activity under it. Provide accurate information when registering.
The Service currently offers a free plan with usage limits and may offer paid plans. Limits, features, and pricing may change. We may suspend or terminate accounts that abuse the Service, circumvent limits, or violate these Terms.
The Service is beta software provided free of charge. It may contain defects, change without notice, lose stored data, or become unavailable at any time. Do not rely on it as your only record of anything important. We do not guarantee uptime, accuracy, or continued availability of any feature.
The Service, its interface, and its product database are owned by the operator. Store names — Home Depot, Lowe's, AutoZone — and product brand names are trademarks of their respective owners, used here only to identify products and locations. Ask Danny is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any retailer or manufacturer named in the Service.
Material lists generated for you are yours to use freely in your own work.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT MATERIAL LISTS, QUANTITIES, PRICES, OR AISLE NUMBERS ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR SUITABLE FOR YOUR JOB.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE OPERATOR SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, WASTED TRIPS, WASTED MATERIALS, PROPERTY DAMAGE, PERSONAL INJURY, OR LOST DATA ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE — INCLUDING RELIANCE ON AN INCORRECT MATERIAL LIST, QUANTITY, PRICE, OR AISLE NUMBER. TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SERVICE IN THE PRIOR TWELVE MONTHS OR USD $50.
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from claims arising out of your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or work you performed in reliance on Service output.
Ask Danny is for adults doing trade and repair work. You must be at least 18 to use it. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13, and if we learn that we have, we delete it. If you believe a child has used the Service and given us information, write to us at the address in section 15 and we will remove it.
If you believe material available through Ask Danny infringes your copyright, send a notice to our designated agent. Under 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3) the notice must include: your physical or electronic signature; identification of the work claimed to be infringed; identification of the material you say is infringing and where it is on the site; your contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are authorised to act for the copyright owner.

We remove or disable material that is the subject of a valid notice, and we terminate repeat infringers. If you believe material was removed in error you may send a counter-notice to the same address.
Every material list on this site is generated by artificial intelligence. Nothing here is written or checked by a licensed tradesperson before you see it.
Several AI models answer your job independently and another model combines their answers. We tell the models to prefer products from our own database and to say when they are unsure, and each item carries a confidence level. None of that makes the output correct. Quantities, prices, specifications and aisle numbers can all be wrong, and aisle numbers vary between stores of the same chain.
We do not use AI to make decisions about you, to score you, or to profile you. We do not train our own models on your job descriptions. Anything you type or photograph is sent to our AI providers to answer that one request — see the Privacy Policy for who they are.
Treat the output as a shopping list to check, not as professional advice. For gas, electrical, structural or anything you are unsure of, hire a licensed professional.
We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be reflected in the effective date above, and continued use after a change constitutes acceptance. We may suspend or discontinue the Service, in whole or in part, at any time.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes shall be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York.
